Zachary Couture is an 11 year old boy who has been dignosed with a life-threatening disorder called adrenoleukodystrophy. Since his diagnosis, Zachary has experienced hearing and vision loss and lost the ability to walk.
In March 2006 Zach underwent a bone marrow transplant to stop the progression of his disorder. While the procedure did stop the ALD, it did not reverse any of the damage that had already occured. Currently, Zach is fighting graft versus host disease and trying hard to get off of the anti-rejection medication which has many unpleasant side effects.
While the transplant has already taken place, Zach's road to recovery is still a long one. We are hopeful that advances in medicine will someday provide a means to repair his damaged brain. In the meantime, medical expenses are still a challenge. His family is asking for donations to help cover the medical expenses involved to ensure that Zachary receives the care he needs to successfully overcome this devastating disorder.
